Android Market has become to "Google Play"
Android Market is eliminated by Google. As a substitute for the application store of Android operating system, Google released "Google Play". This change is seen as Google's effort to compete with the rival Apple's iTunes service which has the App Store, Music, Movies, and iBooks.Google Play is basically an all in one portal for applications such music, books and film. Android Market will be called as "Play Store". While the content of books, music and film will be called as Play Books, Play Music and Play Movies.
Android Market application on a tablet computer and the smartphone will be updated with the Google Play Store icon in the next few days. This update is specifically for the Android operating system version 2.2 and higher.
"As of today, Android Market, Google Music and Google eBookstore as a part of "Google Play". On your Android phone or tablet we will upgrade the Android Market to a Google Play Store application ," said Jamie Rosenberg, Google's Director of Digital Content such as cited by TechRadar.
"Google Play" design allows users to control and navigate the content. Google apparently hopes on rebranding its application store will increase the number of visitors as well as revenue. In addition, the application store presented to rival Apple's App Store.
"Although a phenomenal success and widespread adoption, the Android Market find it difficult to collect such revenue in the App Store," said Greg Sandoval of CNET tech sites.
Google is still indicated at least less happy with still a lack of purchasing power of applications in the Android Market. It was said recently by Eric Chu as the Android Platform Manager.
According to research firm Piper Jaffray estimates total revenue from the Apple App Store reaches USD 4.9 billion until the end of 2011. In the span of about the same time the Android Market 'only' reached about USD 341 million.
